Is Vietnamese Coffee Good for You?

Vietnamese Coffee Iced

Short answer: in moderation, yes. Coffee is one of the most studied drinks in the world, and the research keeps landing in its favour. Here's what that means for Vietnamese coffee specifically.

It's loaded with antioxidants

Coffee is one of the biggest sources of antioxidants in most people's diets. These compounds help protect your cells from oxidative stress, and higher coffee intake has been linked to lower rates of heart disease, some cancers, and type 2 diabetes. Robusta beans, the backbone of Vietnamese coffee, are particularly rich in chlorogenic acids, one of the key antioxidant groups.

The caffeine actually works harder

Vietnamese Robusta has nearly double the caffeine of standard Arabica. That means sharper focus and better alertness from a single cup. A phin-brewed cup of our Buffalo Robusta delivers a genuinely strong hit, and our Condensed Milk Iced Coffee can packs 220mg, more than most energy drinks, from real coffee with nothing synthetic.

Caffeine also stimulates adrenaline, which is why so many athletes have a coffee before training. Better endurance, better output.

It's good for your head

Moderate coffee drinking is associated with lower rates of depression. Part of that is chemistry: caffeine nudges dopamine and serotonin. Part of it is ritual. Watching a phin drip for 4 to 5 minutes forces you to slow down, and that small daily pause counts for something too.

Liver, heart and blood sugar

The research here is genuinely encouraging. Regular coffee consumption has been linked to a lower risk of liver cirrhosis, fatty liver disease and liver cancer. Moderate intake is also associated with reduced stroke risk and better insulin sensitivity, which is why coffee drinkers show lower rates of type 2 diabetes.

None of this makes coffee a medicine. But it does mean your daily ca phe is doing more good than harm.

The catch: moderation

The general guidance is up to 400mg of caffeine per day for most adults. One strong Vietnamese coffee puts you around halfway there. Push well past that and you'll meet the downsides: restlessness, racing heart, poor sleep. Most of our customers treat their Vietnamese coffee as the one serious coffee of the day rather than stacking it on top of others. That's the right instinct.

Where to start

Our Condensed Milk Iced Coffee has half the sugar of traditional ca phe sua da recipes, so it's the easiest healthier entry point. Or brew your own with Buffalo Robusta and a phin filter and control exactly what goes in your cup.
